It is with great sadness that we express sympathy to the community of Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Once again, the nation faces the tremendous pain of seeing the grieving families of the students and teacher who did not survive another senseless tragedy.
Metro Schools is highly invested in the safety and well-being of our staff and students. Our counselors are available to support students who have concerns or anxiety after hearing of acts of violence, no matter how far removed from our location. We encourage you to visit the National Association of School Psychologists website to learn more about talking to children about violence.
Metro takes a holistic approach to school safety, addressing it in several different ways. One is by creating a safe building, which includes a secured entrance. Another is through training and safety drills on how to respond to possible threats inside or outside of the building. In addition, there is a school safety team in place to develop step-by-step protocols that address safety/security concerns. Administrators work collaboratively with the OSU Police Department, located just northeast of our campus.
One of the most important actions you can take is this : if you hear or see something, say something! Our leadership team is available by phone or email if you have reason to believe there is a threat to students or staff. You may also contact the Safe School Hotline by dialing 1-800-418-6423 (800-4-1-VOICE ext. 359), or by textingTIPS to 614-426-0240. Anonymous tips can also be submitted on our school website (under Connect With Us > Safe Schools Reporting Form > click on the Safe School Helpline graphic).
It's our job to keep school safe; thank you for helping us keep it safe!
